About the Artist

Clare Samani is on her senior year at California State University Long Beach. She is pursuing her degree in Bachelor of Fine Arts in printmaking. After her undergraduate days are over, she wants to press onto graduate school at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Clare has been involved with art since she was a child, she’d been drawing ever since. With that being said, almost anything art related are a part of her hobbies but like most people, she enjoys spending time with friends and catching a film.

Formal Analysis

Clare’s exhibition had many different type of clothing with a colored background. Each background differ from the rest with some having polka dot pattern, zig zag pattern, cross-hatched lines, and these intricate dots that form a floral pattern. As for clothing, there are button-ups, mini-skirts, t-shirts, and blouse. Most of the color pattern she used weren’t very light and had a deep color to them.

Content Analysis

Clare has taken an interest with how people present themselves and how clothing is a huge part of it. She decided to choose the color palette based on what color clothing people wear often. One of the reasons as to why each piece is big is because she actually used article of clothing to recreate the pattern.

Synthesis / My Experience

I though of my sister when I saw this exhibit which made me want to do it. I took the pictures of the pieces and sent it to my sister and she fell in love with them. I really enjoyed the colors that Clare used in each pieces. The clothing and background did a good job of blending in while other pieces contrasted and it really complemented each element.
